Mom bathing baby | My Organic Company

How often should I bathe my child? What shampoos and skin soaps are best to use?

Every child loves to play in a relaxing warm bath with their favorite toys for hours at a time. A lot of mothers tend to like to keep their kids very clean and give them baths every day or every other day. While you may think you are doing your child a favor by cleaning it everyday, you are doing your child's skin an extreme injustice.

When bathing your child too much you are giving your child's skin less time for it to repair itself through natural oil production, which over time will cause skin irritation and the killing of healthy beneficial bacteria. The same applies for newborns. Giving your newborn a bath 2-3 times a week should be more than enough to keep them clean. The last thing you would want to do is dry out that beautifully soft skin of your newborn, therefor make sure you keep the bathing to a limit and don’t overdue it.

When it comes to shampoos and bathing soaps, look for gentle shampoos and other cleansing soaps that will not dry or irritate your infant's skin after a bath. Products for baths like “Weleda organic Calendula cream bath” and the “HiPP sensitive shampoo” are PH neutral and include ingredients that soothe the skin and provide with with necessary vitamins.
