Loulouka Cow's Milk: The Ultimate Parent's Guide

Updated 01/10/22

Relatively new to the European family of organic baby formula brands is Loulouka.

Loulouka was introduced in 2016 by several baby formula industry experts after years of frustration by the inconsistent quality and composition of popular European infant formulas.

In our review of Loulouka infant formulas we will take a close look at the company, ingredients, and baby formulas that make up the Loulouka organic brand.

The founders of Loulouka - Michael, Peter, and Christiaan - each felt that there was not a baby formula on the market that exactly matched their ideals of perfect nutrition for their own children.

Coming together with a collective vision, these three men decided to build the foundation of what soon would be the Loulouka brand centering on two very important beliefs.

The first point of focus would be to make no compromises: they only use skim milk from organic cows and Swiss raw materials.

The second focal point of the brand formation would be to ensure sustainability across all ingredients and factory processes with great detail, including sustainable packaging as well as recycling 100% of its manufacturing waste.

Loulouka Baby Formula

When sourcing ingredients, Loulouka founders had a very specific plan to make sure that your little one gets the very best in safe, healthy organic nutrition without compromise or cutting corners.

Swiss Milk

For milk production the trio chose Switzerland. This country has the highest standards in the treatment of cows.

On average, farmers in Switzerland only keep 23 cows. Cows roam freely in the Swiss Alps and get all the special attention they need to lead happy and productive lives.

In the summer months, cows are given furlough so they can rest up and stay happy and healthy before resuming milk production; as we know happy cow’s make better milk.

EU Organic Regulation

The founders of Loulouka chose the Netherlands, where they met, to bring their sources together and to supply families with nutrition.

Switzerland is known all over the world for the strict regulations concerning infant nutrition and organic certification standards.

European Organic Certification

Quality and Integrity

With your infant in mind, Loulouka is produced in small batches and then goes through 50 different quality assurance batch tests before shipping.

Quality is of the utmost importance to Loulouka! That is why their entire supply chain meets and even exceeds many standards including:

  EU Organic Certification

ISO certification 22000 for food safety management system processes

  SKAL certification for organic products

  Swiss organic regulations

  Swiss organic farming regulations

  HACCP certification

  Swiss Guarantee certification

  Switzerland – US equivalence regime

No Soy

Loulouka uses skimmed Swiss cow’s milk to provide proteins. Parents can be confident that no soy ingredients such as soy oil, soy lecithin, or soy protein will ever be used.

Research has clearly shown that too much soy in infancy can have profound effects on babies' health that can last a lifetime

No Palm Oil

Many organic baby formulas contain palm oil as a fat source. Baby formula producers use palm oils because it has qualities similar to nutrients found in breastmilk.

Unfortunately, palm oil can cause sensitivity issues in babies' tummies and has negative environmental implications.

A search for a better choice began. One that would be sustainable, nutrient rich, and easy on every baby's digestive system. Coconut oil became the answer.

Coconut oil is gentle on babies' digestive systems and closely mimics breast milk in many nutrients such as a high concentration of medium chain triglycerides and saturated fatty acids.

The environmental impact of coconut oil is very low. Growing coconuts doesn't require pesticides or herbicides, and coconuts are harvested by hand.

No Added Sugars

Cheaper, processed substitutes for lactose that include corn syrup, glucose syrup solids, sugar, brown rice syrup, and sucrose are often found in over-the-counter American formulas.

These high glycemic sugars are rapidly digested and cause substantial fluctuations in blood sugar, leading to health problems that can be impossible to reverse.

Loulouka baby formulas contain only naturally occurring lactose sugars for their carbohydrate, giving your baby the perfect balance of energy and nutrition.

Natural Prebiotics and Organic Ingredients

Loulouka infant formulas contain galacto oligosaccharides (GOS) which belong to the group of prebiotics or prebiotic fibers. GOS are produced naturally from lactose with the help of enzymes.

This healthy fiber helps to regulate gut functions by feeding the good bacteria that lives in the large intestine.

All necessary vitamins and minerals are included from stage 1 all the way to stage 3 follow on formula. Loulouka formulas then go beyond requirements to include Omega 3 and Omega 6, amino acids, inositol, and choline.

Most importantly, the very best Swiss organic skim-milk provides intangible benefits for Loulouka infant formulas.

Avoids Harmful Ingredients

In addition to the benefits we have outlined, you can be sure that Loulouka nutrition will only contain pure organic ingredients and without fillers, harmful additives, or questionable components.

EU and Swiss regulation will never allow: GMOs, soy products, added sugars, or synthetic ingredients, and Loulouka will never compromise quality ingredients over cheap and harmful fillers.
